Nutrition impacts all aspects of a patient’s wellness, ability to heal and potential mouth disease. Biological dentistry, like what we practice at Bluffton Center for Dentistry, includes an awareness of how nutrition impacts dentistry. We believe in a holistic approach, where all systems and factors are looked at together as part of a whole instead of separate. This approach allows us to be informed, educated and interested in regards to a patient’s diet and eating habits.
NUTRITION AFFECTS YOUR HEALTH
Nutrition is at the core of everything your body does for you. From health to sickness, from energy to lethargy, from happiness to depression. The necessary nutrients your cells receive or do not receive affect everything about you. If only one cell in your body is deprived, it slowly affects the rest of you. By making improvements on a cellular level, you can eventually improve dental and gum health, as well as your overall health and well-being. It all starts with the decision to change your lifestyle and improve your health. If you need a jump start to changing your health and nutrition, Dr. Alvin Danenberg’s 12 Week Body Coaching program is an excellent place to start.
OUR APPROACH TO NUTRITION
As a patient, you may never have had a dentist (or even a medical doctor) talk with you about nutrition. Our periodontist, Dr. Danenberg will talk with you at your first appointment about nutrition and specifically about ways the foods you eat affect the health of your mouth. As a periodontist, Dr. Danenberg will help you understand how evolutionary nutrition affects your gum health. His goal is to improve your nutrition so that he can effectively treat your gum disease. Giving your body the nutrition it needs along with ridding the mouth of the destructive bacteria that can cause gum disease, you can create a stable foundation. This stable foundation allows you to maintain a healthy mouth for the rest of your life, creating a platform upon which your mouth and smile can be restored.
